FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the process to get an Idaho real estate license?

To get your Idaho real estate license, you need to take the 90-hour Pre-license course from an approved school (like the Idaho Real Estate School), which consists of two Modules. Then you’ll need to pass the state exam at Pearson Vue testing center, schedule a fingerprint background check, and gather all necessary material for licensing. Afterward, you would register an electronic account with the Idaho Real Estate Commission (IREC), apply for your license at IREC, and obtain an Errors and Omissions Insurance policy.

What is the difference between the two Modules?

Sales Pre-license Module 1 builds a solid foundation of real estate principles, vocabulary and concepts that applies to real estate in Idaho, while Sales Pre-license Module 2 dives deeper into real estate concepts, principles, and regulations. Completion of both modules is required to satisfy the educational requirements for a salesperson’s license.

Is there any prerequisite for taking Salesperson Module 1 or Salesperson Module 2?

There is no prerequisite for taking Salesperson Module 1. It is recommended that students complete Module 1 prior to taking Module 2, but not required. Modules can be taken in any order, but completion of both is required to apply for a real estate license.

What are the course schedules at Idaho Real Estate School?

Module 1 and Module 2 are both 45-hour courses. They are held either:
Monday thru Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm MST for 2 weeks, or Monday thru Thursday from 6:00 pm to 10:00 PM for 6 weeks. See our calendar for details.

What courses do I need to take to get my real estate license?

Getting your real estate license requires taking a 90 hour pre-license course. You are able to take this class in-person, through Zoom, or online.

Do you accept VA benefits?

The VA currently does not offer financing for the hybrid delivery method, so unfortunately we are unable to take VA benefits. However, in honor of those who have served, we offer a $100 discount to any active service member or veteran who signs up for our pre-license course. Additionally, after you obtain your license, you may be able to reach out to the VA to have additional licensing fees reimbursed.

If I am licensed in another state, do I have to take a pre-license course?

If you are currently licensed in another state and wish to be licensed in Idaho, you do not have to take a pre-license course before taking the state and national exam.

Are any pre-license courses automatically waived for other professions?

Yes; Valuation and Analysis will be waived for currently license appraisers. Real Estate Finance will be waived for applicants with an accounting degree and working in an accounting-related profession, actively practicing attorneys may have Real Estate Law waived for a broker’s license along with module 1 for sales pre-licensing.

What classes do I need to renew my license?

To renew your license for the first time, you are required to take 12 hours of classes (8 hour post fundamentals and a 4 hour elective of your choice) along with two CORE classes (ranging from 3-4 hours each). After your first renewal, you can take and 12 hours of electives and the two CORE classes.

What information should I study prior to taking the state and national exam?

Before taking your state and national real estate exam, we recommend studying the Idaho Real Estate Handbook, Idaho License Law and Rules, either Modern Real Estate Principles OR Mastering Real Estate Principles, as well as Mike Gamblin’s “A Guide to Passing the Idaho Real Estate Exams” All of these books are available for purchase in our bookstore either online or at the school.
